Selskapet, basert i Italia, ble grunnlagt av Giuseppe Borsalino som studerte hattemakeri i Frankrike hvor han fikk tittelen "Master Hatter". Han brakte disse ferdighetene tilbake til Alessandria hvor han grunnla Borsalino.
